Do you think my color choices are reasonable?

Hey! I'm only 17 and looking at getting one of these amazing cars w/ the $ i don't quite have yet...looking to get it mid next year! I can't wait!

The one i have been thinking of is the Passion. The exterior i like the blue w/ silver tridion. But then the part im not sure of is doing red interior? I am going for something different, but would it look too rediculous? I wish they had blue interior...

Anyone know where you can get the exterior panels from? I've seen a bunch of pictures with colors that are not offered by smart...but didnt know where to get them? and is it true that the color inside of the smarts are also panels that you can easily change out?

thanks! New member,
Jacob

You'll have to do a search on here, but someone else bought that combo and commented on how much s/he really liked and was happy with the choice.

Usually, other color combos are Gen 1 smarts, special editions, custom paint work, or future models.

BWAAAHAAAA Mike! Good one!
Jacob, make sure you get an interior color you really like because that is very hard to change later. The exterior color can be changed easily with the purchase of a set of panels to the tune of $800 I think. A couple of the colors, red and yellow I believe, are actually molded colors with a regular painted clear coat. The blue is definitely painted blue on top of black plastic. Ask me how I know... on second though, DON'T!

Jake,

Regardless of what the actual colors are, there are some principles to consider. Many if not most designers try to work with three colors only - two that compliment each other and one that contrasts with both of the two. Four or more colors are confusing; two colors tend to be bland; and a single color can be non-descript depending on context.

The smart has so much glasswork that the interior colors spill out to the exterior and really have to be considered with the exterior. The standard smart passion/cabrio interiors are already two-color (black and …), except for the optional all-black leather.

Also, the exterior has at least two colors to begin with (three if you choose a silver tridion) – the body panels and a significant amount of non-tridion black around the glass and the rocker panels.

So, your blue/silver/red combination is really blue/silver/black/red & black. Working with the above principal I chose white with black trid and rockers, and red & black interior - three colors. White and black are actually complimentary though opposite because you never think of white without thinking of black and vice versa. The red is the contraster.

I don`t see anything wrong with a blue car with red interior. The smart is a fun car and should be whatever color combo you want. Bottom line, get what YOU want and don`t worry about what other people think.

I got the blue cabrio with black tridion and red interior. You'll have to pry it out of my cold dead fingers! (sorry Charleton, couldn't resist) Like it's been said, go with what feels good to you. I think blue and red rocks, and I'd buy it again if I had to!

In fact when I got my car the dealer commented that somoene had gotten a blue smart with silver cell and red interior, and that she was suprised at how good it looked. Also, they had a custom painted one that they did in the shop**it was orange.

I'd definitely go for the interior you like. If you dont end up liking the colour combo, get new outside colours or swap them with another smart owner looking for blue.
