Typically, adaptive learning has to do with upshift timing and downshift timing. The RPM (as modified by load) at which these occur. I don't know if smart adapts or merely plays 'table look-up.' I think it is preloaded to upshift early to allow it to get better mileage and emission marks with the EPA. The time to shift from one gear to another is probably not adaptive and that seems to be what some are referring to in this thread. So the distinction I am placing on the table is that WHEN the shift occurs is different from the TIME to make the shift. My personal theory is that the Time to make the shift is fixed. As for adaptation, I really don't know. My guess would be table look-up. Someone said it earlier, we need an authoritative source. Ciao
