Ice cream and chocolate don't melt above my engine compartment on a 100 mile drive, when placed in a bag with something on top so that the engine is the only source of heat. The sun does shine brightly through the pano roof and windshield. I have black leather interior, and driving in bright sun with 90 degree outside temp takes a while to cool down, but night driving long distances, no problem.
In Portland you're having heat problems? I've been to Portland, in August. The weather blew me away with highs around 80 degrees (and 65-70 to the west on the coast). I'd give a pinky finger to have Summer weather like that here!
But, as for your question ... I have less of a problem cooling my Cabrio down than ANY other car I've ever owned. I'm 54, I've owned more than a couple cars. Passion Coupe seems to have a problem though.
The Portland weather is kind but I'm frustrated when it's low 60s outside, it's night, and I have to crack the windows (or turn on the AC) to keep it comfortable. The fan at 2 just isn't enough. When trying to converse, there's too fine a line between enough airflow to be comfortable and so much airflow you can't hear your passenger. If it were 75 outside, I could understand, but low 60s and I still can't be rolled up?!

OIC. Maybe in 3 or 4 months I'll get to see what you're talking about myself. I ususally expect a break in the suffering by Halloween. So, I'm not qualified. Who's next?
I have found that the car is very warm for my preference. I have a Passion and I'm not sure if it's the roof and/or all the windows. Considering tinting the windows a bit more and a sunscreen for the top! I, too, drive with the passenger window cracked. The floor above the engine is not warm or seem to put out any heat factor.

2 hours in a car and your ice cream doesn't melt? Really? Please, people...a lot of us love these cars, but they don't repeal the laws of physics or thermodynamics.

Good catch. Ice cream from the store to home shouldn't have been included in that statement.

It's pretty warm here in Central FL, too. I have tint on side & rear windows but sitting in the sun would raise the inside temp to unbearable levels even with the windows cracked (you don't dare leave them open here in the summer or the rains will get you.) I bought a jumbo windshield screen and cut it to fit the pano-roof. That has helped tremendously and the A/C can cool it down pretty quickly now. I also have a roll-up windshield screen on order custom fit for the smart. That should do the trick until Nov. or so when it finally cools down.
