Dog Carrier in Boot Area

Hi Gang,
Someone asked me via PM if I had any ideas about carrying a dog in the boot area since the retractible luggage cover isn't really for holding items. This person has a bull dog or some type of terrier. Well anyway, I do have an idea if that person is still interested. The carrier is a smart product which is pretty versatile and can carry the weight of a 30-40 lb dog too and you only take up a portion of your boot area. If interested...let er rip. Thanks, Regina

"Behind the Seats Stuff"

Regina,

I see that you are up-and-about. Nothing about dogs, but I left a message for you on smartManiacs.

I would think (at least with a passenger in the front seat) that there would not be enough room. A dog that big would require a midsize carrier, which would be too boxy to fit. Overall height and length probably not a problem, but as you know, trying to fit a fixed rectangular box in a small space that is not perfectly rectangular (ie, slope of the seat or hatch) is next to impossible - those edges and corners of the box get you every time!

edit: Ok, so I didn't read all your post!
There is already a smart carrier made to fit if I understand correctly?
Then it comes down to the size of the dog. If its a Bully, no way I would think. I can't imagine this carrier being comfortable for a good size dog. Of course a picture of this setup is worth a 1000 words!

dog carrier

My dog fits into the "large" soft sherpa bag which is very comfortable behind the seats, but she is a very small dog! I would be interested in the smart carrier...do you have a link?

Ok. Maybe I don't know dog weights so I'll just say that the smart carrier is large enough for a beagal, pug, shelty, french bulldog, west highlander, etc. Check out the Multifunctional Box as sold in the UK which is were I got mine from (a MB dealer called Bald). It's no more than a stylish (heavey heavy duty) grey styrofoam cooler with a lid. From the pix it looks like plastic but it's not. It fits perfectly in the rear boot behind one of the seats. You could put bedding in it to manipulate the height of your pooch or you can put their bed on top of the lid which is indented about 2 inches. Very solid and it's made to hold hot or cold food. Hope this helps the dog lover because if I had one, I would definitely carry it in one of these. Oh yeah, it's about 14-16" high. Enjoy, Regina

bully on board

my bully fits perfect in back. he's still a pup though.

my other bully who died earlier this year was about 120 pounds and while he might not have had much room to romp about he still would have fit comfortably. He was quite mellow, so he would have just enjoyed view out the back window, and the snug fit would have kept him from trying hop up front. in his last days i had to handle him quite alot for car rides to the cancer treatment clinic, and with that experience i can say confidently that he would have fit snugly yet comfortably in the back of my smart.

i have the luggage compartment roller-divider, which does a good job of creating an area for little kosmo to feel comfortable in while we go for rides about town. sometimes he'll sit upright and face forward with his paws resting on the divider, content to watch where we're going, or even take a nap. other times he'll just look out the back window as people wave at him.

while i havent yet tried, i suspect that folding the passenger seat flat-forward would accommodate his carrier, which im quite sure is a bit too big to fit in the luggage compartment.

It says we cant view the ebay auction because the seller is away. Any other pics? I have a large cat and want a dog. This might be a cool solution.
