Doing a "Green" Story, need your input

Hey SCOA, In the coming weeks I will be doing a story at my station (Northland News Center) on my Smart and the car as a whole. It will be on the local evening news and posted online. I know a good deal about the car, but do you have any suggestions for me for story content. I will do an interview with a owner, and the dealer.

I know safety is a concern to many. Maybe you could point out that side impacts are the most deadly statistically and the smart has the best available side rating, or explain what ESP does.

Definitely go on a drive on the freeway with a smart owner and film it

I know, I can talk to myself. But at the same time, I rather give the opportunity to give someone else the spotlight as well.

Talking to yourself again?

Make sure you start at the beginning with one of the greenest auto plants in the world. im trying to get you a trip to france

Get yourself a Skype interview with Dave S. You got his number don't you?

Or, you can just find an old interview from somewhere else and Recycle it. What's greener than that

How about taking a toy Matchbox Smart and smashing it with a hammer while on camera and then comparing how the toy car holds up well like the 1:1 car does. Ok, not so good idea?

Oh the ideas are endless if they'll let you do skit material. How about bad guys chasing down the street in a normal size car and a garbage truck pulls out in front of you and you are able to squeeze through the tiny space and the bad guys in the normal car can't fit. Still no good?

Well, I guess I'd go for the basics. How many people are mislead by the size and it isn't as unsafe as some make it out to be - while saying that rap on the tridion and note how that is the stiff rollcage, then go onto the 4 airbags, electronic stability control and any other safety features you may gather.

Of course I'd get them to get some footage of all the single occupants in multiple occupancy vehicles and mention the wastefulness of it. I normally ask how often people drive with more than 1 person in their car. I mean, if we went off the way people think about that - we all might as well have 5 bathrooms in our house too because multiple people might need to all use the bathrooms at the same time.

Then I'd mention the novelty - how easy it is to change the whole look of the car in under 2 hours with a panel swap.

I could go on with ideas but I think you're going to do fine on your own.

...the factory...the mpg's...and above all SAFETY..plain and simple...let's put an end to the ignorance or at least try to bring into the forefront the SAFETY...and that the car is 95% recyclable....

And don't forget to mention that while the car may be little, the key is not.

Fuel savings. Yes, my mpg's have increased, but look at it this way. I'm using less than HALF the amount of gas I did with my Jeep. LESS THAN HALF! Can you imagine if everyone in the U.S. could do that?

Using less fossil fuel is only one of many ways to decrease pollutants in the air, but it's a great start and easy to do.

As Americans , who were brought up to think just the opposite, we now have to tell ourselves "Bigger is NOT always better".

I think you nailed it on the head here.

Just like every story about cell phones includes dozen of random shots of folks driving while texting, or every story about americas eating habits includes shots of Fat peoples back sides.

Get the group of shots from the street corner of folks all alone in a great big vehicles.
