Don't buy this STUPID (SMART) car

I have a Cabriolet with everything on it. Has 2500 miles and would not start last week after driving it 2 miles. It was hauled 3 hrs to the Jackson, MS dealership where they said it is a bad battery. There is a problem with the batteries amongst many other things according to the dealer. I have waited a week and I have to call to find out what is going on. They tell me today they MAY have a new battery on Jan 7!! Now I am paying for a rental car each day and have to pay to have it brought back here when (if) it is fixed. I called the 1-800 Smart number and after waiting 45min for a human to answer they said there was nothing they could do. There have been so many problems with this pathetic excuse for a company (and the car) that I urge anyone waiting for a car to avoid this car like the plague. Anyone wanting to buy this silver/black cab. let me know. I paid 18,590.

Wow, sounds like you really didnt want one. Ive had more problems with cars than the ones. Just give it a real chance. Its a brand new brand with brand new technology. Just be patient. And I would bug smartUSA for Dave's number about your rental.

Wow

Sounds like there maybe a loose nut behind the wheel...I suspect if the car troubles you so and causes so much anx., try letting it go for $12,000 and you will live a little longer....

Smart #1 (also since April) has 14,000 miles and no problems. Smart #2 has 5200 miles and no problems. Anxiously awaiting Smart #3. You must remember that people tend to use public forums to complain. For every complaint, there are hundreds of very satisfied customers like me. It is useful to be informed of problems and fixes, but to bash the company and product because of a bad unit is not proper. When I have had a concern, calmly speaking to the dealership has always resolved my concerns. I suggest the above individual try this tactic.

Unfortunately there are more satisfied owners than dissatisfied owners. That being said, keep bothering them and of course settle down, think out what you're about to say well ahead of time. Whether you're venting here or yelling (I mean talking) to the customer service reps at the 1-800 # or the dealership.

After reading (and re-reading, and reading again) what you wrote it seems like you've had your car since April and only put 2500 miles on it. Is it rarely driven or do you drive it about 10 miles a day? #1 - reading the forums here, it looks like there was a bad batch of batteries as you aren't the only one who this has happened to.

Keep bothering them to get your money for a rental (check if you have rental on your insurance policy too). You might have it and not even know it.

If this is the only problem you've had, it isn't really that bad even though it seems like it at the moment. You wouldn't give up on walking just because you stub your toe.

I have 2 Smarts -
#1 - Almost 20,000 miles and no problems
#2 - 5,000 miles and no problems - knock on wood for both

Good Luck.

I've had my smart since March (one of the first 50 in Atlanta), it has 9600 miles and has had ZERO problems.
