Krodista,
I have a convertible smart Passion and absolutely love it! My wife and I live 40 miles north of Seattle, Washington, in a town called "Marysville".
I took delivery back on the 8th of March and now have about 10,000 mile on it.
We have an English Bulldog and travel about 2x's a month down to Portland, Oregon to see my in-laws. That's about a 3 and 1/2 to 4 hour drive (depending on traffic), at a driving distance of 215 miles. With the car fully loaded with myself, my wife, English Bulldog, & luggage, plus the A/C on during this past summer, we got between 41 & 43 mpg!
You will love the smart cabrio! There's nothing like driving with the top down during nice weather. During the hot humid weather, having the top up with the A/C on is wonderful. The quality of the top is A+ and for a convertible, it's rather quiet. The back window is glass with a heating element to keep it clear from fogging up. The only drawback when the top is down is the rear visibility is reduced (we got a rear back-up camera), and not having a rear-wiper. These are not major setbacks and I would still prefer to have a cabrio.
When the car was below 3,000 miles, I did notice we were only getting mid-to-upper 30’s in the MPG department. However, as soon as we were over 7,000 miles, our mileage increased into the 40’s.
I hope this helps answer your question.

Regards,
-Tom L.
