I was very lucky to pick up an orphan in 4 weeks 5 days. As I was waiting for my smart I kept telling myself that I was going to drive the heck out of it. You see I have to extremely nice classic micro cars and always wished I could drive them daily but that's just not posible seeing that there very delicate and they don't feel so safe to drive since there even smaller then my Smart. So came the call they had a Smart for me. Now when it comes to my cars I'm a strange puppy. Get in don't move so much, are your shoes clean, no food no drinks no smoking! Don't touch the radio! You have rings on, don't touch outside of car I don't want no scratches!
Carefull when your getting out don't hit my door on that other car or the curb! The fist trip to work was a nitemare all they guys jumping in and out of my Smart with there dirty work boots and work clothes. I left my key with one of the girls in the office and she let all the other girls in it. I don't leave the key with her anymore. Now I don't want to drive it because I like it to much! I park it at my moms because I have 5 cars and they don't all fit at my house. For now my Smart is my weekend car. I go over to my moms and just stare at it. I love it! Not driving it only makes me Love it more! Today is thursday and I can't wait to pick it up for the weekend! Yes my friends I am a strange puppy when it comes to my cars HEHEHE!
The smart can be driven daily for us obsessive types, since everything is easily, quickly, and cheaply replaceable. The car never needs to look more than a day old. Got a scratch or dent? Change the panel. Don't worry, be HAPPY! My car let me know on Day 1 that it was a ferol car that was BORN TO RUN.
I grew up in the classic car game. My dad and I spent alot of time restoring some very nice cars and going to shows. Shows where people put up ropes and signs that said "Do Not Touch". Most shows even handed out the signs as part of the registration packet.
Dad would always cross out the "not" and put it prominently on the car.
I remember once when a small child wanted to look inside (dad left the doors open) and was carrying an ice cream cone. His father grabbed him quickly and chastised him and then my dad told him "go ahead, climb in, they had ice cream in 1948 too"
I love my cars, but if you let paranoia ruin it for you then what is the point. I have been lucky enough to own some reasonably rare exotics and I drove them, even raced them, because that is what they were designed to do.
Baby your car, keep it nice, but enjoy it, drive it, and dont let fear ruin the experience.
Much of the country is just now appreciating the warmer temperatures. The scenery at Univ of Delaware is much improved!
Time to really drive and show the fortwo, and prepare for another parade.

WELL SAID! Took me a long time to figure that one out. Now with my antiques at shows I encourage people its OK to get in and have their picture taken with the car. Last photo shoot in last October they shot over 500 pictures using the car as direct backdrop for the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Air Force. It made me cringe, but I even allowed some girls to sit on the front fender. No damage and I quickly got over it. Once I loosened up, my cars are SOOO much more enjoyable. I used to yell about people touching - - oils in fingers etc... Not anymore, it wipes off! I tell people, "if you have to touch something, touch mine but keep your hands off theirs."
