My fogs come on when the parking lights are on. They come on when the low beams are on. They stay on when the high beams are on (a violation of VA Administrative Code, and generally elsewhere too if they are classified as "fog lights"). They are legal if they are classified as "auxiliary driving lights."
In ohio a car is only permitted to have 4 forward facing white lights. The reason some cars do not let you put on the fogs with the bright lights is the low beam lights stay on with the brights. This makes 6 white lights facing forward.
Not at all. The point to putting DRLs on cars is to kill motorcyclists.
By adding DRLs to cars, motorcycles, which previously were among the few vehicles which burned headlights in the daytime, no longer stand out. In every country where DRLs have been mandated, there has been a directly correlated increase in motorcyclist fatality rates.
If a smart has DRL do they turn the motorcyclist light off?
I'm surprised they couldn't come up with a 'smart' DRL's circuit to work with the Auto headlamps in the comfort package

I think that's a stretch - like to see the numbers. I can't see how adding DRLs would make you blend in. WHat's to say that seeing a pair of headlights just simply means there are a pair of motorcycles approaching!

DRL's do increase visibility, hence safety - I've come across many a situation that I've almost missed an approaching vehicle because they blended into the background.
wrong, DRLs only increase visibility of an oncoming car, a car seen from behind in fog or rain wont be seen until its too late because the individual could see out of the front with the DRL running and didn't think to turn on their lights so that people could see their tail lights. The amount of safety found with DRL is offset by the amount of danger caused by them. On the other hand Auto lights turn on all lights when its foggy, raining, or otherwise dark...this is the feature you should want...DRL just have no advantage over autolights, which at least will turn on the taillights and be on during the important parts of the day.

And that's why the EU smarts have the rear fog light, which would make perfect sense for the NA smarts also - what, we don't have fog on this side of the pond?

No, we just dont back up in the fog and no one sees us from the rear in the fog.
