J Paul put out a message a few days ago that indicated he talked to someone in management at the factory. I got the impression from what he said that DRLs are a matter of a setting in one of the car's computers. That means that there is a code and if someone can get it, or if MB will let the dealers know what it is (sure they will) the dealers can set it. I have that option on my BMW and the dealer has a list of what can be set. They do however charge to hook up the computer and make the changes.
Bottom line, if I interpret JPAUL'S message correctly it is a matter of MB cooperating or waiting for someone ti reverse engineer the thing
Here is the excerpt from his posting:
Just got in touch with Olivier Amélineau, Media & PR Representative, smart France. Here are some of the subject of our conversation:
DRL: is a simple matter of programming and will be widespread shortly since the European Union has decided to make it mandatory. It is already available in Northern Europe and Canada. It shouldn't be difficult to have it for the US. [
Let's ask smartUSA, PAG and Daimler to make it available asap.]
