I'm surprised they haven't been deafened by the ROAR for CC, which they somehow seem incabable of hearing.

Now, the DRLs were not available as an option when we configured, and the car isn't due in for at least another 12 months. So somebody checking the "DRL" box at Smartville may cause a two month delay in receiving our late 09 (or early 2010) car? YGBSM!

I called Easton today and they are looking into it. I will assume a delay would only be there if the car is in the scedualed 90 day window of production. Easton did not say anything about a delay

Does anyone know if once the 09 smarts arrive with DRL's - that it may be possible to add them to an 08 smart? (Need advice from the mechanics out there!)

No DRLs for the 08s from smart; however, you can install an aftermarket DRL kit.

J Paul put out a message a few days ago that indicated he talked to someone in management at the factory. I got the impression from what he said that DRLs are a matter of a setting in one of the car's computers. That means that there is a code and if someone can get it, or if MB will let the dealers know what it is (sure they will) the dealers can set it. I have that option on my BMW and the dealer has a list of what can be set. They do however charge to hook up the computer and make the changes.

Bottom line, if I interpret JPAUL'S message correctly it is a matter of MB cooperating or waiting for someone ti reverse engineer the thing

Here is the excerpt from his posting:

Just got in touch with Olivier Amélineau, Media & PR Representative, smart France. Here are some of the subject of our conversation:

DRL: is a simple matter of programming and will be widespread shortly since the European Union has decided to make it mandatory. It is already available in Northern Europe and Canada. It shouldn't be difficult to have it for the US. [Let's ask smartUSA, PAG and Daimler to make it available asap.]

M-B is going to have a change of heart as far as N.A. dealers having access to the computer goes. That is why OEM, after-build foglights cannot be programmed to work.

I cannot see where $50 should come in unless there are an additional relay and resistor/heatsink involved.
