E15 Ethanol Gasoline

I just received information from a legitimate source in one of my other endeavors concerning an increase in ethanol in gasoline from 10% to 15%. Interested parties have until 21 May 09 to submit comments to the EPA. Links to WSJ and NYT articles explaining the situation are attached. Also attached is a link to a marine industry site. The email strawman included in it was prepared for marine interests, but it can be re-worked for automobile use.

WSJ 09: EPA Considers Higher Ethanol Mix - WSJ.com
NYT 09: A Slugfest Over Higher Ethanol Blends - Green Inc. Blog - NYTimes.com
NMMA: NMMA - Government Center

Remember, our smarts are limited to 10% ethanol.

Thank god I can still get gas without it. I get BP gas all the time here in Michigan and it does not yet contain ethanol. Nasty stuff that.

This is legitamate, there is currently a great deal of lobbying going on in DC to move the standard to 15% without the completion of studies as to the impact on most engines. The original goal and efforts were targeted at 20% and the proponents are now trying to show they are reasonable with a compromize to 15%.

The ones pushing for this are the mid-western farm states, the corn producers and the ethonal people. It is being fought by the auto industry, other grain users such as the livestock and food grains companies and many others.

My own opinion is that because of Obama's focus on alternative energy sources this has a good chance to become law even if it does not make scientific or environmental sense.

You might want to keep an eye on what happens and you may want to write to your representatives.
