In this economy how did you get rid of the car you had before your smart?

I've heard from some that the smart dealer won't want to give me jack for my car for trade-in. I've researched it and by the time I'm ready go buy smart I'll owe what the car is worth for trade in kelly blue book. I'm wondering did you guys sell your cars or trade-in and did you get good trade-in value. If I don't go to dealer I have a Carmax in town and they advertise all the time that they buy your car even if you don't buy from them. I know this is probably not a worry for most people but unless I get what the car is really worth (at least trade-in value or private sale value) I won't be able to get the smart.

halp!

We traded in my 2-year old Kia Rio 5 that had 8,000 miles. We received book value because it was low-mileage, and got good gas mileage. However, that was in May when the economy was a little better.

I had a few cheap efficient cars - each being $1700 Geo Metro, VW Jetta - $2500, Mercedes diesel - $4000 & a Corolla - $4000. They were each in excellent condition so they sold the first day....sorry - I lied.......one took 3 days. I didn't price myself out of the market either plus they were paid for.

I have not got rid of my truck. Still have it. There are days I want to sell it to pay off some other expenses. But it does help to have a truck whenever I need to go to home depot and buy stuff like mulch or flowers...etc.

My last ride (300 SRT8) had low miles and $12K of performance mods on her. And BTW, she averaged 12 mpg. I sold it to a dealer for $26K - which was a little below blue book and received nothing for the modifications. This happened in february and believe it or not, I felt fortunate I was able to get that much. With the smartie being as great as it is, I've never regretted it.

It's still sitting in my yard, with a for sale sign in the window. I was getting a lot of inquiries, until I added the price to the display. Most calls seemed to think they were going to pick up a 2006 Sentra, still under warranty, for $4-5K.

I don't have a payment due until April, because for 6 months I made double payments. I payed ahead $1500, and I'm only asking what I owe.

You're scaring me man cause that is boat I'll be in trying to sell car for what it's worth private sale which happens to be what I owe. This isn't looking good, I have been trying to sell some small electronics on eBay but no one will bid too (never had anything not sell). I can't believe our economy is in such a shatter that basic transactions ie car or eBay auctions aren't moving.
