It just mystifies me reading some of these reviews, especially about the gas mileage-

4600 miles and the best they can get is 43.4 mpg. The worse was 25.7 mpg? Where they driving on four flat tires? Two sumo wrestlers drove it? Driving through the Rocky Mountains all up hill? Dead stop traffic in LA? How do you get 43.4 miles as the highest?

I've put on 1600 miles so far. Today, coming back from a golf course, and driving against a gusty wind, I managed 46.7 mpg (driving between 60-68mph). On the way up this morning, I averaged 44.2mpg. Last week just dinkin' around town (no highways) doing errands, I managed a measly 38mpg.

I guess I'm driving a different car then they are.

Cool! thanks for pointing that out. Sad that so far the most fun he's had driving it is the most annoying part for me... sailing the wind gusts. I love my car for everything that it is, though... It gets me where I'm going and I enjoy the getting there way more than my last car. As long as this proves to be reliable, the smart is a winner to me.

Unfortunately, their experience is pretty well in line with mine. I haven't gotten one full tank over 39 MPG yet. 38's the best I can muster over 300 miles. Sure, once in a while with a tail wind going down-hill, I can get 45, but going back up the hill ruins my average coming back. On these windy Upper Midwestern days, it's worse... low to mid 30's is all I can get. Not sure what I did wrong with my car, but it's not getting the mileage I hoped for. But it is about what the window sticker says it should be.
