I am a huge fan of electric cars and I love all the models ever came out. Yes they are not that fancy like the normal cars but anyone can convert a normal car in an electric car with the right electric car conversion kit. It can be really fun but you have to be that someone who doesn't really mind getting all that grease on yourself. I love experimenting and I am going to try out really soon as soon as I get free time....
Has anyone tried it out yet? Please let me know. Help or advice of any kind would be more than welcome.
The typical auto repair shop in the US is not set up to build the typical kit. This is not put a new hard drive in the computer kind of work. The ones available for sale reflect the amount of effort it takes to convert.
The average car is an assembly of over 4 million parts designed to work together I am unaware of a kit that will convert your smart or any other car for that matter to electric propulsion with hand tools... Good luck

I've seen AC Propultions retrofits and they have been in the market for quite some tome and are building the Mini Cooper power plant. Retrofit by them is ~$55,000, you supply the car.
