Electric cars at Paris Motor Show

I searched but did not find this posted. Perhaps with the change in gasoline prices it is of less importance. If you click the link you will see several electric autos - I thought it important to note that the only one that did not have the word "concept" attached is the smart.

One could argue that one would want electric to lessen the dependency on foreign fuel and help stop or reduce global warming; especially if the source of electricity is from a 'clean' source.

In America, most of our electricity is from coal, one could hardly imagine a less clean power source.

However in the Pacific Northwest, most of the electricity is hydroelectric with no Deli mustard.

Pac NW = coal 14%
gas 14%

i.e., almost one-third of each mile traveled in an electric vehicle in the PNW would be fossil and CO2-spewing driven

Fortunately the smart car is built in France with mostly pristine, clean nuclear power using reprocessed uranium, so the car itself is mostly guilt-trip free!

One thing most people fail to consider about electric vs gas is that electric is already delivered to almost every house in the US already. And the transmission cost of electric is FAR less then the cost of moving gas.

If it were a one to one comparison, electric vs gas looks like a marginal gain. When you add in the transport from the drill to the tankers, tankers to the refineries, and the refineries via pipeline, rail, and/or truck to stations. That all starts to add up to make electric a lot cleaner that gas.

And yes, coal takes transportation too but it's almost entirely done via rail, which is far more efficient than most of the gas transport options. The distance coal goes to get to those plants is also usually a lot lower than the oil-to-station trip. Also consider that in 5 to 10 years, electric cars will become greener with no alteration as electric generation changes from coal to renewables. Gas cars will still be using gas.

And could have had a nice Nuke plant downstate (Indian Point I think is the name) if Cuomo and the nuke naysayers had not stifled that "already built and ready to start powerplant" with political action of that day. (Post TMI incident).

Now the windfarms are popping up everywhere and NG wells are also popping up everywhere in Central Upstate and Souther Tier areas.
So rest assured this state will be using clean electric for the most part.

And my next step will be having a car like the one shown. That is exciting to me to see that it is a reality and not a concept like the Volt....Bravo!!!!!!!
