Engine light from gas tank hole

I found out why my engine light was on. The dealer sent my new car out to CA Concepts for my stereo system install. During the sub woofer installation, CA Concepts drilled a hole through the sheet metal and into the gas tank! A new tank has been ordered. My ride is stuck at the dealer until next Thursday.

And I just installed new 16" tires and Schmidt wheels, had my windows tinted and installed Dynomat in the doors and floor. The stainless grill kit and fog lights go on next week. The week after I have my side skirts painted to match the body.

How about a quick "where not to drill" lesson? Could be very helpful to others.

Is CA Concepts paying for the replacement gas tank?

Sounds like the dealer should be on the hook for it.

True, but I would think the dealer would make CA Concepts cough up the dough for the tank since they were the one who drilled the hole.

I have not seen the damaged tank. I insisted on receiving:
* a copy of the paperwork showing a new tank was ordered and installed
* I personally wish to see the damaged tank.
* prove the hole in my floor is repaired (photo).

Until I get access to my ride again, I will not know where the damage occurred.

I am not paying for the replacement tank nor the car rental; the dealer is. Hopefully, the dealer is being reimbursed for the costs.

Why? That's hardly best evidence; have 'em show you the old tank. If you had to sign a work order, it's yours anyway.

If someone drilled into your tank, they had to do it from inside the car. If you see the tank, you'll know where to look for the repair to the car. A photo is - again - not best evidence. Ask to see the repair.

Making demands like seeing paperwork or a photo isn't the best thing to do; seeing the parts and touching the repairs is.

Your pal,
Meat.
