Every report seems to focus on the safety of the smart...

With every report focusing on the safety of the smart fortwo it is inevitable that there will be debate but I want to know what the general opinion around the forums are.

Are you worried that the smart fortwo is less safe then any other small sized vehicle? If so, why?

Crash test today in news said that on the side impact test, drivers door opens on impact. 4 stars for head on, 3 stars for side impact, 3 stars rear end crash. Drivers and passanger could be ejected from vehicle. This

worries me. Someone on this fourm also said that their drivers side mirror shakes along with many others here on the fourm. This is not good also. I have never owned a vehicle that has the side mirrors shake. This to me would be a safety issue.

The mirrors don't shake. The car is small. I wouldn't want to get hit by anything at high speed, but I used to own a Toyota Landcruiser and I got rear ended at high speed by a VW beetle and my car was a mess. My back hurt, we were thrown violently backwards, and that darn VW didn't even have the airbags deploy, and the driver was fine. So I learned alot about well built small cars that day. But I also learned you don't want to get hit by anything. So I drive defensively, watch out for nuts, and try to have a good time and not worry too much.

Excuse me, but the smart got a four star frontal, FIVE star side and three star "resistance to rollover."

And the side mirrors don't shake on mine.

It worries me that you were mislead somewhere with the ratings.

Wearing seat belts would prevent occupants from being ejected.

My first car out of college, a Chrysler Cirrus, had mirrors that shook... so did my wife's Sebring Convertable.

The mirrors on my Fortwo coupe do not shake.

I think every report from the US Media is negative for one reason or another. Possibly advertising dollars from Detroit, resistance to change, or to appease Joe six pack and his 10 MPG Tahoe. :-P

my mirrors don't shake, I have over 10 yrs in autobody repair experience. I've seen a lot of different wrecked vehicles , including a vehicle like an 1976 cadillac sedan deville with a longgggg front end (at the time considered to be one of the safest cars) owner crashed into the back of a parked car at approximately 35mph , he died. I've seen the crash test videos on you tube and MBZ videos, I am not worried. Paying attention to what you are doing, and being a DEFENSIVE driver is the most important factor.

No shake - no worries. Just drive defensively as you would in any vehicle.

Not worried that the Smart is less safe then other small sized vehicles.

No mirror shakes, or milkshakes in the car
