When I have my little wheelchair in the back I have to loosen one side of the deflector. It doesn't flap around as long as the other three corners are secure. - sheureka

I have to get one of these. I have that Dupree haircut.

That's one reason why I keep the rails in with the top down because when you remove them the wind is stronger. I have a Brabus and I read that it has the NA Brabus has the hooks so you don't need to change the roll bar covers. I'll have to go look to see if it actually has the hooks.

What are these bungee cords that you are talking about from Home Depot? Do you have specifics? I read in another thread that they were $1.99. I even looked at pictures of one persons Smart but I didn't see these bungee cords that "look factory". hmmm, maybe I am missing a page for this info.

Genuine smart wind deflector

Can anyone confirm if this is the Smart part number for the wind deflector? A451 860 00 74 0064

Your chair is probably smaller than my suitcase. When it's in the back of the car, I can't see out the rear window.

I have no clue what you cabrio guys are talking about. What does the wind deflector look like?

I thought that it was that little wedge just above the windscreen?

It's material strapped behind the seats along the roll bar. Having the extra obstruction there helps to keep the wind from getting sucked into the negative pressure behind the care prematurely.

I didn't have so much respect for the thing until this thread underscores what a useful product it could be. I haven't driven without rails but once or twice this summer and never at speeds above 45 with the windows down. I sure would like to enjoy top-down driving like I did in my Z4! The wind screen may help.

It's a piece of very heavy netting that attaches to the European roll bar at each side. The bottom corners then hook to the sides, just behind the seats. It really does keep the wind down when the top is down. I got mine from the Santa Barbara dealer for about $160 shipped, including the four parts for the roll bar and the actual deflector. It really does work.

These pictures from the Santa Barbara parts guy explain it best - Genuine smart wind deflector. - sheureka

Okay then.

I always thought that cabrios already came with something like that on the bars.

Sounds very effective.

Not the US-market cabriolets; only the European markets. That's why I ranted about it up there^ in post #9 (among other threads)...

No; that just breaks the slipstream passing over the windshield header, which pretty much eliminates wind noise and roof-rippling when the top is closed.

My 2009 USA Brabus Cabrio didn't come with the Euro Spec roll bar cover, the cover is identical to my 2008 Passion. I was one of the first people to take delivery on the Brabus (got it in December), so I guess they started this on more current builds.

It appears this is the $1.99 bungee cord that everyone is talking about but it's now $2.99, haha.
