Extending steering column

Smart Forfour is a perfect car for me, except that I almost have to lean forward to get to the steering wheel when I have the seat in the backmost position, which I need because of my long legs.

Is there any way to extend the steering column about 10 cm? (a tad under 4 inches).

Thanks for any replies.

No forfours in the USA or Canada; might be better to ask the question at Smart Mania - Smart Car Forums. or Home - smartManiacs - smart car forums and information site

It would be nice to see a photo of the ForFour.

I would think, in either car, you would need to buy a different steering wheel.

I gave up, I'll just have to grow baboon arms. I've had some handicap customisation modders look at it, and it's possible. But then I'd have to drop airbag to get it through govt. control, because the airbag functionality is only tested with the factory length of the steering wheel.

Which is stupid imo, I mean, what's the difference between me having the airbag 10 cm closer to me, and a shorter guy sitting 10cm closer to the airbag?

Well, that's bureaucracy in a nutshell.
