My '09 has this problem. It appeared after the first rain - quite odd. I had not washed it or waxed it yet. I'm not too concerned about it though because my plans all along have been to paint all the plastic trim pieces anyway.

After getting my red/black home I noticed the same white spots. My guess was overlap from the dealer's "paint protectant" (i.e. wax) application. I used some 303 Plastic Protectant and it cleared right up. Used a rough towel fabric to apply and remove to get into the plastic's crevices. After the next washing a few others showed up and I did the same thing and now I don't have any.
303 Plastic Protectant is similiar to ArmorAll but made for aircraft plexiglass and such. Available at Ace Hardware stores. I also used it on the headlight covers and tail lights. Works good . . .

I can't believe nobody has told you the answer to your question yet, it is so simple it is frightening, and it is cheap and it absolutely 100% works and had worked for years and all you need is a cloth and spray onto it

WD40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plastic trim that is discolored is made to look like new and once done it protects it and keeps it shiny, I always carry a can to go to meets as usually somebody asks this question and showing them is better than telling them and they are amazed.
Trust me.
Just do it.

•Armor All Multipurpose Cleaner (with a bluish-green label) works great for taking wax off, off black plastic. Use a very very very soft brush, or a soft terry cloth. Rubbing too much can make the plastic shiny. Great for cleaning tires too!!!! Wash off with water.

• Simple Green. Use a soft rag too. It will cut wax. Don't use full strength.

• Be careful of bug and tar solvent, some of them will make the plastic go white. They will take off wax.

• Be careful, not to get wax on any unpainted black trim.

Good Luck

Wax haze or build up is the whitish haze you see more on black trim but let me assure you the whole car is not as shiny as it could be.

Oh by the way those using Peanut Butter to get the wax haze off... do you know WHY it works???? I guess some of you slept through Chem class in HS. OIL dissolves WAX.... simple. Use a little extra virgin olive oil... from the first cold pressing, ant it will work the same! OK just use the cheap Wesson oil.. that works too....

I'm supposing that it's something like when you take the dishes out of the washer and you notice white spots on the plastic cups...

One more question: Do they disappear when the car gets wet?

If so this might prove my theory about the smart being like a cup in a dishwasher...

I tried Windex, thinking it was "just plastic". Well it IS just plastic and Windex worked. Went away, never been back. Swipe on some Armor All once a week or two, perfect!

Possibly the best answer I've heard so far!

And since you live closer to my neck of the woods than the other posters in this thread I can safely say that your solution is probably the best considering this odd weather that IL gets trapped into every year.

What causes this problem in on the plastic...???

Geez... it was soooo warm today!!
