maybe he has the same problem I do? I am apparently too stupid to use the holder and after 10-15 seconds of trying, I give up (sometimes I get lucky and it actually catches though). Want to share the secret of the stupid mechanism?

But, the first time I filled the car up at the gas station, I fiddled with the "holder" for about three minutes before I got tired of looking like a complete moron. Then, I just let it hang.
ha ha ha ha ha.....well, the next time you're in Indy, for a 'nominal fee' I can PERSONALLY demonstrate the very technical and precise method that I use which btw works EVERY TIME!
If you come to Oregon you will never have to worry about hanging it on the door. You just give your money to the person at the pump and problem solved. I guess they figured we couldn't figure out how to pump gas, much less to hang the gas cap on the door.
Okay, so I went and played around with it, looking a little closer at the hook and the cap, and I think I've got it figured out. I was manhandling it previously, twisting it around trying to figure out how to get it to lock on, etc. I think that the first time I used it I got it to work, but felt like it locked into place. Today I got it to work just by simply setting it there. The gas cap has a small gap between the hard outer edge and the softer sealing edge and the little ridge on the hook just sits in the gap. Pretty simple actually.
When I try to put the cap on the fuel door holder, it takes me 3-5 seconds.
If I don't think about it and just "place" it where it should be, it hooks and stays every time.
Solution ? Don't think about it, just place it where it should be. You'll be surprised how well it works !

DING, DING, DING, DING......we have a couple WINNERS!!!
I had issues with it too. I don't see a way for it to solidly sit in the door at all, but I could be doing it wrong.
You don't fit the cap *in* the fuel door; it rests on top of the fuel door hinge. Notice the semicircular raised rib on top of the hinge? The edge of the cap sort-of hooks on that.
It took me all of about 30 seconds to figure that out the first time, back in January, and I haven't had any trouble making it work since then.
