Faint rattling sound from dash

For the last month I've been hearing a faint rattle sound that seems to be coming from the center of the dash. I was planning to complain about this the next time I took the car into the dealer. I finally found the source of this! I had some coins in the holder in front of the gear selection lever and when I removed them the sound went away. The noise returned when I put the coins back.

Stop feeding your smart peanut M&M's. The AC vents are not mouths.

Have you done any work on the car lately?

...you need to get your tires balanced...the pesos in my coin holder do not make a sound...maybe it's because they have no value...

I have a slight vibrationy rattle sometimes, from around the speedometer. I also get one occasionally from the sun visors as others have reported. There's also a very loud buzzy vibrationy sound from the back end, and it gets louder when I step on the accelerator.

At one point I also got buzzy vibrationy sound from the back end. The rear tailgate was only latched on one side. Noise went away when I closed it properly.

Wait, are we talking about rattles and buzzes? I could go on all day!

<rant>
At 600 miles, I got a buzzing noise from the rear-view mirror and a very loud buzz from the plastic above my windshield. The dealer replaced the mirror and put a bunch of felt on the inside of the top plastic, and now the mirror is silent, but the loud buzz has not gone away (i'm taking her in for another look). There are more rattles from the rear hatch, and when I drive on the freeway my door panels rattle violently against the frames in the wind. My passenger vanity mirror also vibrates silently, but that pales in comparison to the other stuff. On top of that, I have a scraping noise coming from the wheels when I'm driving with my window down next to a wall or another car (the sound goes away when I depress the break). No one can figure out where that sound is coming from.

My family's from Zimbabwe, and I've spent many a childhood summer being driven around in 1970's LandRover Defenders (reassembled from other Defenders), light-blue 1960's Pugeot 606 wagons, and rotting antique Benz's. My car could hold its own in the 2009 African Union Old-Car-Unsavory-Sounds Contest.
</rant>

Still, rattling, buzzing, and scraping aside I LOVE my car, and Smart Center SF has been almost fanatical about trying to get rid of the noises one-by one. Smart Center SF, I'm rooting for you!

Simple fix for smartie's vibrationy rattles:

Oil the hamsters' wheel every once in a while. For the clicky sounds: trim hamster's little toenails.
