These emotions are a normal part of the "Smarting Process."
There is no right or wrong way to grieve the slow delivery of your smart. All your feelings expressed on the forum are quite normal. It is helpful, however, to know that human grief is a process that often follows a healing pattern.
SHOCK is the first stage. It is accompanied by disbelief and numbness that it could possibly take so long for a car that’s half the size of others to arrive.
DENIAL follows quickly, crying "I don't believe it," or "It can't be." Surely my config email has arrived and it got caught by the spam filter or was accidentally deleted. I know I’ll get my car by my birthday, wedding, graduation, etc.
ANGER is customary. Feelings of hate surface for those fortunate enough to have received their cars. Threats of lawsuits emerge. Those with hacking abilities shut down Smart Car of America web site. Spiteful, mean words are said to those who adopt orphans.
BARGAINING is the vain expression of hope that the bad news is reversible. The griever starts making frantic inquiries to the dealer, corporate headquarters and eBay. Offers are made to pay substantially more than MSRP.
DEPRESSION comes when finally you accept the truth**you won‘t be configuring anytime soon. You may cry reading happy stories on the forum, or drown your sorrows with alcohol.
ACCEPTANCE AND HOPE! You begin to understand that meaning and purpose can be obtained with an orphan. Taking control over your own destiny, you get on numerous orphan lists and wait by the phone for that special call. Eventually your little car will arrive!
WHAT TO DO IN THE MEANTIME:
Share your feelings with others.
Discuss those feelings openly and frankly on the forum.
Show interest and support to those who need your help on the forum.
Remember: buying an inferior car is a long-term solution to a temporary problem.
