First 300, 2009's Left the Dock

The "Sierra Nevada Highway" has the task of carrying the first 300 of the 2009 model. It left on 10-22-2008 and is scheduled to arrive in Baltimore on 11-3-2008. Oh yea, mine is on it.

How do you find out? My DDE says 11/30/08 - 2/28/09.

I'm in the UK atm but no contact via email from my dealer (Smart Las Vegas) and my US mobile doesn't work here!

Hello 'lil.smartie',
It looks very doubtful that you'd be able to trace it so soon. Your Dealer should be able to get you your VIN around mid-November. Ask him then. You'll need the VIN to trace it down.

I believe the "Independence II" left fours days earlier with a batch of 2009's (including mine). It is scheduled to arrive in Baltimore on Wednesday, October 29. Either way I'm sure you'll get yours before I get mine due to my location here in Minnesota.

We should be back over in Dec so I'll chase then. We live in the UK (and run WellSmart) so the fortwo will be my run about whilst we are in the US and will spend a fair amount of time sitting about outside the apartment!

lil.smartie is my city-coupe here, she's the oldest in England (10 yrs old now) and my baby, I'll never sell that one

Cargo tracking your smart
IMPORTANT UPDATE
Cargo tracking only applies to cars arriving at the Port of Baltimore via WWL ships. smarts also land at Jacksonville, Florida and Long Beach, California via different carriers. Tracking for these ports has not yet been located.

Whenever you get the VIN number of your purchase, you can track its shipment here http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppTracking/cargoTrack.do

Choose Auto Cargo and enter your smart's VIN. If you click on the ship's Voyage number it shows the ETA's for its ports-of-call. Try this Canadian VIN for a test WMEEJ31XX8K076892.

I notice that the ships call at Halifax, Canada, Port of Baltimore, and a couple of ports on the Eastern Seaboard, transit the Panama Canal and then call at Port Hueneme, CA before going to Portland, OR and Seattle, WA.

Its unknown if West Coast cars will be sent by rail from Maryland or come around via the canal.
