First Road Rage incident in my Smart....

Today was the first for me against......a Suburban of all things.

I was coming back from lunch and this guy in a Suburban decides that rather than pulling behind me as the 'merge' lane came up, he decided to speed past me to try to 'squeeze' in. Well the traffic was bumper to bumper so he decided he was going to pick on the smallest car......he merges into me, I move out of the way, and he gets his spot. WRONG. I had another car coming to my right so I wasn't moving anywhere. We were about 12" apart when he decided to abort. He also had to basically stop because the merge lane ended.

Well he sped around me and sped through traffic. Then waited until I drove up to his side and rolled down the window and gave me the finger. I motioned to him as well but I don't think he could see through my tinted windows. Just as he was exiting another highway, He took a bottle of water he was drinking and threw it out at me. Luckily, he was an old man with no arm. The bottle of water was no where near to my car.

That goes to show you how people in big cars are sometimes nothing but cowards. They use their big cars to intimidate. I know this man would not have the b_lls to get out of the car if I would have stopped. He only threw his water bottle because he was exiting and I was going straight.

I still can't believe he was so angry as to throw something at me. What a turd

sorry to hear about that man. he is trying to make up for the ego he does not have with his big suv. You should have tailed him a little and whoops 4 slashed tires lol. Glad to hear the car did not suffer and damages

I had a couple events - not as bad as yours but similar - within a week of each other last month.

Guy decides merging behind me where there was plenty of room just wasn't good enough for him so he speeds by me to where I'm already about a 1 second following distance and expects me to back off. He doesn't merge because I haven't backed off - there's room for him to get in at the crowded position he chose so I swing into the merge lane behind him to show he's got the clearance so get over already. Once in the main traffic he's not bolting into the other lanes like I'd expect from someone so hot to get in front of me. Since I haven't backed off to his liking, he holds a piece of trash from his arm extended above the window. A couple seconds later, it gets tossed. Then he changes lanes.

Later that week, similar thing but without throwing involved. Gun past the little car and expect to merge in front even though there's plenty of room behind.

It's people like this that make me want the low-tone airhorn to sound like an 18-wheeler. I heard a "train whistle" air horn on one site but that was *so* intense, It'd freak me out to hear a train somewhere right next to me! A truck-style airhorn though would give presence and maybe give pause to the people doing stupid things.

Its exactly this reason why I just bought the compact black air horn from Griot's garage. I intend to install it this Sunday.

I had an incident where a teenage kid intentionally kicked his soccerball at my car for no apparent reason. I had a little talk with him and he's been nice and waved every time he's seen me since!

I used to get all worked up when that stuff would happen to me. Now I get next to them and smile as bid as possible and wave. It really throws them off guard. I figure they are having a bad day (or life) and I'll just get out of their way. Someday they will run into someone else who is having a worse day and they can see who wins.

In Virginia this is an offense that gets jail time. They put a mother of two in jail for six months for pitching a soda at someone. Glad you're OK but next time, look out for #1 and let them in, life's too short.

Easier said than done.
My attempts at practicing zen can be challenged now and then.
Then I imagine the other party may just have had a "hit" and a gun under the seat, and I calm down really fast...

Most of the time...
