Wow, this is quite expensive. I thought you only replace one of the switch?
That's the price for a whole new bar. If I were you, I'd demand that they give you the original bar as a spare part, since you've essentially paid for it.

Actually... if you don't care about having the little "on" light and the "fog light" text on the button, you may just be able to modify the one you have currently. Evilution has a tutorial on how to make buttons work on the panel on your own. If the wiring is already there...

This isn't to say that you'll get the results just by doing this. There may be a code you need to send to the on-board computer to acknowledge the fact that fogs are installed (which only your dealer can do). But if you want to do after-market fogs and put them on the panel like a normal set, it's an option.

Yes, you can buy the parts but you also will need the cluster switch cover and you will need to take the car to the dealer to program the fuse box unit. Sorry the correct name for this unit slips me at this time.

I just checked yesterday and it was $284 total to get everything you deed to get the fog lights that will look factory installed (exactly because they ARE Smart fog lights, duh. )

Now, with that in mind - I should of sat back and thought about how much I could get out of a used button bank and fog light filler panels on the big auction site to supplement the cost of buying the new fog lights (maybe $60 for everything? maybe more?). Now that I think about it that way, I might go ahead and get some next time I'm at the dealer I need some on my orphan.

fog lamps can not be retrofitted on to smart cars with out a completely seperate wiring harness.
yes all the factory wiring is there, you can plug in the fog lamps and even make then work with the star diagnostics controlling them through the SAM module. How ever MB did not release to us the SCN Coding needed to reprogram the fog lights to work for America. For some reason they only have the coding on the assembly line. we have added some on but used hella wiring harness and made a separate toggle switch to control them

just a bit of info i have fond

My smart had fog lights installed by the previous owner after he purchased the car. I finally got them working within the last two weeks. The smart dealer in Lynnfield Mass was able to get the programming codes to enable the lights. I was the second smart they had reprogrammed.

It cost $99.95 and included the mandatory washing and vacuuming at the Mercedes service department.

So are we really looking at $100 for what likely amounts to 10-15 minutes of "labour"? I can do without the car wash.

Here are the prices for the parts.... Crazy

You'll need:
A 451 820 67 10 - New Switch Panel (x1). Price 125.50. plus tax
A 001 984 65 29 - Fixing screws need 4. Price 2.03 plus tax "EACH"
A4518260118- Plastic covers -need 2. Price $15.90 plus tax each

LEFT lamp
Merc part number: 251 820 07 56. Price $61,25 plus tax
RIGHT lamps
Merc part number: 251 820 08 56. Price $61,25 plus tax

Total 287.92 plus tax and installation.

The good news is that the wiring is already in the car.
Crazy if you consider that the original optional from the factory was $120.
I bought both lamps from Ebay for $70 shipped (w164 fog lamps)
-$2 for four screws at Home depot 10-32 3/4" with washer
-I still haven't bought the plastic cover yet, the dealer quoted me $21.80 for each plus tax (ouch--for plastic cut out)
- I will modified the switch panel, so it will be free
-I installed it myself, so it is also free

===Grand Total: around $115
Now for the code? Hopefully someone will know how to installed it and post it online for free? :-)
