I wouldn't call the fog lights wrothless. They do put out an amazing beam pattern for what they are, and they are definitely worth the $120. That being said, I wouldn't trade them for rain sensing wipers.

Why should one need to with the technology available to us?

I, unlike most here it seems, leave mine off all of the time (as per the owner's guide). When it is raining, they go into auto.

I let them infinitely adjust themselves, and don't worry about speeding them up or slowing them down.

You apparently chose not to get them on your car... that's your perogative.

Why interject for those of us who factored that into a buying decision?

My auto headlights turn on pretty often while they're not needed (full sunlight), but they are always on when they need to be.

My auto wipers (as others have noted) sometimes have to be bumped into operation. But, the auto variable speed seems to work great most of the time.

I also have the fog/driving lamps. Big mistake smart is making, IMO. I like the auto functions.

Especially in light of the fact that my reservation for my second smart was placed too early ... I'm requesting the return of my deposit. I'll make another deposit for the 2010, and hope they've wised up by then. Maybe cruise control too? Heck, what am I saying, they're cutting back ... not improving.

I wasn't telling you not to buy the car... just trying to understand why you (or anyone) specifically wouldn't buy a car because of this specific feature... since I seem to be the only person on the forum happy about the change I'll move on... still don't understand but I guess I'm just old school.

I think every car produced today, other than econo boxes, have some form of auto headlights. Also, the auto variable speed is still there. The only thing is they do not come on by themselves.

I also think Smart finally realized the whole auto system was flawed.

I am glad that my Pure does not have that feature. I do not miss it since I never realized there was that feature until this forum.

When I ordered my smart, I thought the auto wipers and headlights were the stupidest waste of money imaginable. Now that I have them I love em!! I'd not trade in my smart for a newer model that lacked them.

The headlights are nice when pulling into a garage in daytime and the delay for providing enough illumination to unlock the door. The auto wipers are one of life's little conveniences, especially during those pain the butt days..when the weather can't decide to rain, spritz, or do nothing at all.

My next car, smart or whatever, WILL have both of those features.

Same could be said about cruise control. Why is it so hard to use your foot?

What smartUSA didn't say was "I'm sorry but because we are having problems and don't want to recall and fix this problem and spend more money we will hide it and substitute the problems that we don't want to pay $$$ to fix' Thank you for your continued support..."

It has nothing to do with wether you like those options or not it's the fact that they will switch options to keep from spending their cash to fix the real problem that they do no want to do and expect you the customer to just shut up and take it!

P.S. I do have all the options and cruise control on my Passion and they work correctly. Call me lazy I don't care. You want to know what lazy is how about the job of: Henry the 8th had a royal butt wiper aka Groom of the Stool how's that for lazy
