I believe the Hyundai Accent has the cheapest MSRP of any car offered in this country at $10,775. Last years Chevy Aveo 5 started in the high 8's, but they have since raised the price making it the second cheapest. The Smart is indeed the cheapest rear wheel drive car offered on our shores. All the Kia's, Hyundai's, Honda's (except the s2000 and AWD Ridgeline), Toyotas (again except for the trucks), Suzuki's, VW's and anything else that fall even remotely into the price category is front wheel drive. I think I'm correct in saying that the v6 Ford Mustang at $19,650 is the second cheapest rear wheel drive car, that is until the 2009 Hyundai Genesis coupe comes out, which will likely be the cheapest. The Mazda MX-5 Miata and the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky are not far behind. But rest assured the Smart will always be the best value out of all those, as none of the cars mentioned above come standard with electronic stability control (most don't even offer it) (except for when the Hyundai comes out, I'm sure that will have standard ESP) and some, like the Solstice and Sky don't even offer side air bags. In terms of a rear wheel drive car with the engine mounted in the back, the next cheapest (after the Smart) would be a Porsche Boxster. Anyways, the Smart seems more and more like a good deal.
