Does the Smart come with a place to mount a front plate?
I bought my car used and it has mods on the front so no plate.
I was just pulled over for it and was wondering how they come from
the manufacturer. Thanks
The Smart typically comes with the front plate assembly under the passenger seat. You get to drill holes in your front panel to mount that assembly on the front of your car (where there are undrilled dimples ready to guide your work).
An alternative: no holes plate holder which screws into the tow-bolt hole. $50?! I paid double that and am happy with my purchase.
I've noticed that some 2008 cars have the dimples for a European plate, while my 2009 has the dimples for a North American plate. So if you have a 2008, you may have the dimples too far apart for a US plate.
Thanks for the info, I have the big bumper guard that mounts under the car.
It leaves no room for the side plate mount and if i center mount you wont see the plate. I am sure in my lovely state NJ they will say they cant see it clearly. Strange thing is i passed inspection.
