Here is consumer reports opinion

.Gas, "Top Tier"
Q. Reading up on gasoline quality, I've noticed a new standard for gasoline called "Top Tier Detergent Gasoline." Is it worthwhile to seek out gasoline that meets this new standard?
A. First, there is an EPA requirement that all manufacturers of gasoline and cars have agreed on. "Top Tier" appears to be primarily a marketing term. There are requirements to meet "Top Tier," but this does not mean that those who are not top tier do not meet such requirements. The bottom line is, you can safely purchase gasoline from any major brand station because the quality of the gasoline from all of them is very high.

Dont be so sure. I dont know if this is something that has changed in the past 5 years, but I have known a handful of people, some of whom ended up on the news because of this, where a fuel station had poor enough fuel to blow the motor. They kept they receipts and the station had to replace the motor. And I know it was definitely an issue in the 70's but things have change since disco died.

QED how useless CR reports can be ...

Q. [...] Is it worthwhile [...]

A. [...] you can safely purchase from any major brand [...]

This is the type of non-answer to a question I didn't ask which I would expect from a politician.

Not sure if all of this is correct. While over the Summer I used Amstar Gasoline 95% of the time. Over the summer with highway driving, I got a 44mpg average over 16 fillups.
