Fuel Filter

From all I can find out, the Smart does not have a fuel filter. This is a little hard for me to comprehend! From my 48 years experience driving and maintaining vehicles, there is no doubt that at some point, somewhere, dirty contaminated fuel will cause a problem.

Has anyone ever asked Smart why no fuel filter?
Do any aftermarket source have a kit to add a fuel filter?

I have a numbered (.pdf) drawing of the 450 (not 451) fuel system, and there is what appears to be an inline fuel filter somewhere between the tanktop-mounted fuel pump and the engine. Replacement info: http://www.evilution.co.uk/index.php...179&men=Engine. It is a strange looking system with three fuel lines and I think it is for a diesel (The #20 "filter" is in one line; the #25 canister is in another, and the third line is straight through, which may be an injector return line.). I don't have the descriptions of the numbered parts, and if I did they would be in Russian.

But, it looks like M-B/smart has at least thought of it before.

Probable correction re #25: a carbon canister.

Fuel filter is located in the fuel cell...

Nicolas is correct, the fuel filter is IN the fuel cell. Makes it a bit difficult to replace.

Really shouldn't need replaced too often if you get clean fuel. Many cars are going this route the last few years.

mine is a 450 turbo and I bought a fuel filter for the gas model, just haven,t found out where it goes.
