Fuel Indicator problem

I purchased my smartfortwo last week and have just filled the gas tank (with the recommended fuel) as the "fuel cells" were down to 1. Following putting 8 gal. of gas in, the fuel gauge read one cell low. I drove the car for 1.5 days without change and this morning all cells were full. Has this happened to anyone else? No cells have dropped and the odometer reads 80 miles. I know the car is fuel efficient but not that fuel efficient.

Happens all the time. Takes a day or two for the last bar to "fill". There's been a lot of comments in the past about this oddity...

I Only care when it gets to the last Bar. Other than that life isn't worth worrying about wether the guage is 7 or 8 bars full.

Fill your car slowly to the first click and you chould be good for about 300 miles

Until recently, I, too, had this problem. When I took my smart in for its 2.0 upgrade, they also applied a patch for the problem. For me, the problem has been resolved (I say it that way, since another fellow smart owner in my area has not been as lucky, and may actually need a hardware fix)

Mine does this if I drain the tank all the way into the reserve.

Put the smart over your shoulder and burp it

Sometimes mine does, sometimes not, all I really care about is when I NEED gas, so empty is important. No worse than other cars that go for 200 miles before the needle moves then they dropped like a rock

Try filling up when the last bar is still on screen before it goes into countdown for below a gallon.

I have the same problem. Seems like it is a quirk of the car. If so... ok by me. I do have to work hard to get 300 miles out of a tank here in Texas where I run the AC all the time. Haven't done a road trip yet to see what kind of MPG increase highway driving will achieve.
