Fuel Milage

Had to make a 400 mile trip so I took the Smart.
First fillup after 260 highway miles at 70 mph....42.3 mpg. A liitle annoyed that I had to pay $.20 / gallon more for premium, but its way better than the Rover at 18 mpg on premium w/ wife and two dogs.
Too bad the wife had to stay at home this trip.

FuelEconomy.gov

I'd like to request that current owners post their fuel records at FuelEconomy.gov. This will give a good look at the complete fuel economy of these great little cars.

I think there's already a couple of mileage threads here. Maybe they all can be merged together?

According to your figures it cost you a whopping $1.23 extra.

What is up with all the complaining about using preminum fuel! I for one don't mind paying the extra on fuel on the smart when I'm getting way better gas milage to the truck that I also have. I am getting between 38-40 on my smart right now compared to 17 on my truck. To me, I am grinning at the gas station everytime I go fill up the smart when it only costs me about $23. To fill up my truck it's doubled that! An extra buck or two to fill up is not going to break the bank! If you own the smart for 100,000 miles you're paying $800 over about 6-7 years and it's really nothing. Moreover, I am buying a product from Mercedes and before they start selling the smart I pretty much expected to use preminum fuel and nothing less. I just don't see how this has become such a talked about topic

1st fill up I got 37.6 mpg in city driving with A/C on 1/2 the time.
Transmission is used fully automatic at this time.
