Funny stories since you got your smart?
Today, I was driving to a park to take some pictures of my smart. I got there and about a minute later a lady in her Lexus SUV pulled into the parking lot and got out to look at the smart. She told me she was going the other direction and as soon as she saw the smart she had to track me down to look at the car. She thought they weren't coming out until next year but I told her that smart just opened dealerships across the country in January. She asked me a bunch of other questions and I let her check out the inside. She was susprised to see how roomy the inside was. Long story short, I've made somebody's day today as she was so excited and happy to see the smart up close.

it's been an eventful day and a half with my passion coupe. my girlfriend and i had just gotten home with mine and she was driving it around a neighborhood. a police car turned into the neighborhood, then kept following us as i kept telling her to turn. they eventually turned on their sirens, so she pulled over. they pulled up along side us and said "sorry to bother you, but what is that?!?" they asked me a few questions, then were on their way. we got a good laugh out of it. later on, i went over to my friend's house, and he told me that he overheard somebody at a liquor store talking about seeing one around town (mine), and he started laughing because he realized that it was mine. then finally, today at church, my pastor made a comment about my new smart during the sermon...that was quite embarrassing! all in all a lot of fun though. i can't believe how much of a crowd it can draw and how many stares and smiles i've gotten on the highway!

This morning we stopped at Ikea and as we were leaving my wife said she would meet me at the car since she needed to use the restroom. By the time she got to the car there was no less than 12 people gathered around the car asking me questions about it. She said she was glad I didn't get lonely waiting for her.

Two weeks now..
In the past two weeks, I've have had more than my fair share of looks, grins, high-fives, double takes, cell phone pictures and unsolicited comments. I had one guy pull out a tape measure at the local convenience store to check the car's length. I especially like the drivers who fly by me in the left lane, then hit the brakes to take a second look. I had two older women follow me into a parking lot to ask me all about the car. I find that I have to allow an extra 5 minutes for every fill-up or store errand to answer the questions. Comments like "Where's the rest of the car?", "Did you leave it out in the rain and have it shrink on you?", "Is that one of those new-fangle hybrids, electrics, golf carts, etc...?", "Where do you wind it up?". Mostly, though, they want to know how much did it cost, what kind of mileage and where can they get one.
So far, though, no police pull-overs.

Cops curious..but friendly!
I've had my Smart for about three months, and have been pulled over three times...but no tickets! (Knock on wood!) The first time, he said i was doing 50 in a 45, and oh, by the way, what the %&*^%& is it? The next time, a motorcycle cop turned around and pulled me over...seems the speedo sticks around 35-40 until it gets it up past 45...he mostly wondered what it was. Then he pulled his bike up next to it...and his bike was longer! Said to have a nice day...it sure was !

What a great thread.
It has inspired me to introduce Ruby Two to our town's finest. I'll show up in the morning, with a ~trunkful~ of danish, and let them all get acquainted.
That way, they'll already know her on the road, and they won't have to pull a uey on 101.
I'm test driving tomorrow afternoon. Drool. Will report.
My new mantra is "Orphan Wanted."
This car is bringing people together; strangers gather together to look and talk. Owners become teachers and learners.
What a great thing.
