Fuse #11, have you ever pulled it? (ESC Disabled)

I want to start this thread with a disclaimer. I am in no way promoting the idea of disabling stability control, traction control, or any other safety system on our Smarts. You do so at your own risk. Don't make this a 10 page argument on safety, ok?

With that said, who here has pulled #11? What was your experience with the system disabled? Would you do it again? Why did you pull it?

I did it to settle a bet that my smart could, in fact, do a burnout. With the system disabled on a upward slope in the rain (was not on a public road!) it was a piece of cake and I drove away $20 richer. I've never tried it on a dry flat surface, but I'm thinking it would be pretty pointless given the pucky little engine back there.

Next time I pull it I may try for some doughnuts on a wet or snowy spot of closed/private pavement. I am apprehensive about tossing the car on its side like those guys in the J-Turn video floating around. Maybe one day if I'm feeling extremely confident or have a case of temporary stupidity.

Not a lot of info on the forums about disabling the system, so I'm curious about your thoughts and experiences. Lets hear it.

Fortwos can't do doughnuts. You'll have to do Cheerios instead.

First Video - You can get much further off road than a Frozen lake now can you

Second Video - 450.

So no signs of anyone in the states doing this on film yet.

Doesn't count on wet, snowy or otherwise low traction surfaces. Needs to be on a dry surface and produce lots of smoke - that's why it's called a burnout.

With Fuse 11 pulled, is the engine even powerful to do that on dry pavement? I'm talking from a dead stop... I'm thinking if you revved in N and popped it into D, the tranny would slip the clutch for a few seconds, but not do anything impressive. You'd have a burnout, but not of tires.

There are many threads about this. some are putting in a switch to turn it off and on. The big issue is if it is safe to switch it with the key in the on position

I'm not a speed demon, if I feel the need for donuts I'll go to Krispy Kreme.

the car itself has a tq limiting gearbox, by means of clutch slippage.... no more than x ammount of tq can be applied to the wheels.... i had a turbo that has wayyy more power than the american cars and in the dry on a reasonable road it will not spin the tyres at launch, it will around a corner but not in a straight line, it will only do that on low grip surfaces eg, polished concrete...

out cars have 195 on the rear though, even on a regulat road in the wet it will not spin on take off unless it's oily or your on the while line, with such a small car with rear engine and much rear weight bias, combined with the massive squat putting more weight over the rear on launch and wide tyres, traction is not an issue
