Gas gauge issue.

Searched the words "fuel indicator", "fuel level", and "fuel" (thinks to jetfuel I keep pulling threads up he posted in ). I hate to open a new thread but I have the same problem I have pumped 8.70600 gallons of gas into the car once it was on empty (didn't run out on road but was on fumes). The indicator level is after filled with that much gas is off by one notch on LCD indicator. I got the car from dealer and my gauge was full bars. If this is that common a problem you would think the dealer would fix it before delivery. I'm not going to have to spend my free time fixing something smart shouldn't have let leave dealership.

I haven't put any gas in my car yet but I remember reading a thread on this where people said it was a common occurance (maybe 1/3 of the time, IIRC), and the fuel level read normally after the point in time when the first bar would be depleted.

There are many threads not sure why it did not come up. I just filled up the same way I always do and my tank showed 7/8ths full. I am wondering if it was because I was taking off the neg on the battery several times and maybe that confused it. I know Jedi just had his redone at Smart after about 2k miles and it showed 7/8ths. Mine is just over 2k and doing the same. So might be a 2k issue? Not sure though. Could just be my neg battery thing.

As for dealer fixing. Not sure if your dealer does or not. RR smart center goes and hooks it up and resets the guage. Then they fill it up. They told us the other day the tank does not have to be full in order to reset the guage. Food for thought.

He disconnected negative cable from battery (would turn off all the power to car) and thinks it may have screwed up the sensor data (I think).

Gas Gauge STILL has problems
Full tank indication?
Either my gauge is broken, or I broke 50mpg mixed!
Hope you find some answers, or actually lack thereof...

Watched the fix in person last Friday when redbluff had his car in for service. Tech loaded a new fuel gauge "profile" and that fixed the problem. Dealer techs should have this info.

I have a appointment Friday on my day off to have it looked over. I hope smart center of Cary has good techs who know this information.

Post upgrade

I don't know if it means anything or not, but after my car had the transmission flash and 10K service, it has been reading 'full' consistently for three fill-ups afterward. I would rarely see a full tank indicator previously. So, maybe it was taken care of in the upgrade?

I just put my first tankful of gas into my 09 Passion Coupe and the indicator shows full. I assume this means the problem has been fixed by Smart.

Michael

Edit: BTW, my first tankful got 35.9 MPG, a far cry from the 13MPG I'm used to with my Sonoma 4x4. Go Smart!!
