Good news...First line is forming for buying Cruise Control for 451
Just as with a lot of others, I have been avidly following the progress of the new cruise control being developed for the 451. I see that they have just posted the announcement that Smartieparts.com will be getting the very first batch of available products and it's being suggested that those who would like to be among the first to have a chance to purchase one, should log onto Smartie Parts website and submit your name and address. I just did that and unlike reserving your smart car, they are not currently requiring any kind of deposit, so I would strongly suggest that you get signed up immediately, if you are wanting your unit soon. I've had my car since January and right now the only thing that bugs me about the car is that it does not have a cruise control function.
It made me laugh when I sent in my information since they have not actually named the new product yet, and it's made clear that it's really just creating a 'place holder' for you (hmmmmmm, does that sound familiar? (grin))
I'll be sure to post when I get my unit installed and let everybody know how it's working. Right now I'm so eager I regularly find myself dreaming that I'm installing it on my car, only to be disappointed when I wake up and still don't have it, yet. Heck, maybe we can even have a 'show and tell' at one of the upcoming area club meetings of smart owners, if somebody else should get theirs first.
Meanwhile, be one of the first to sign up for a unit so you can be thankful later on.

HD. How about a link to Smartieparts, or Is that part of Smart USA?
Will this be an official dealer install? How many Bush Bucks will it cost? Is this an MB, a Smart product, or after market ? Boy! We sure want one too.
Nice hearing from you again. I trust your car is running well. Hope to see you at the next Michigan club meeting, around the 17th I think.
Hello folks. Designer of this product here. First off, thanks for the post Harley! Traffic increased about 10 fold after this post I think... and Steven@ SmartieParts emailed me that he's gotten a sudden increase in registrations and we presume this is why.
a2jack. Smartieparts.com (the link is in the name) is not part of Smart USA. They are a Canadian based retailer and they'll be the first to carry the product we are developing (for a 3rd company... it gets confusing). Why them? They've been on the smart scene for a long time now and I think they were the obvious choice to get the product out quickly. It is absolutely aftermarket. If it wasn't designed by smart and available as a factory option, its aftermarket by definition. Not to be installed by dealerships... self install is the most likely scenario, or any car audio or mechanic or buddy that's electro-mechanically inclined should suffice.
Jefferios. If its not available this summer, then I didn't do my job. And then I didn't get paid. And then I didn't eat. So I'm betting my nutritional health that you'll see it this summer.

Very trustworthy,
I have no vested interest
Announcement of a Slight Delay in Cruise Control Delivery
In case you haven't heard, a component availability problem is going to slightly delay the delivery of the New Cruise Control for the 451 from the July 1 goal. However, it's hoped that that they will be within a week and a half or so of actually making that goal, by taking some other time saving measures.
My personal take on all this bit of news is that it will now be EVEN MORE IMPORTANT to be in the waiting line to receive yours when they start becoming available. As I posted earlier, the first batch will be going to "smartieparts.com", and they are taking names and data as placeholders for purchasers to receive their first units.
I would suggest that if you really want to be one of the first purchasers that gets a cruise control for your car, you should log onto smartieparts website and get your name on the list.
We all know what a shortage of parts availability can do to slowing down the delivery of any product let alone a new product on the market. I am not connected to the people producing this product in any way other than I want them to succeed because I desperately want a cruise control that's designed for this car and its particular idiosyncrasies. I also feel like Daimler has turned a deaf ear to those of us who purchased early thinking we only drive it in big city traffic and any complaints we have lodged may be taken care of on models produced in later production years but are not going to be addressed on the models already produced. I know I may sound a bit like 'Chicken Little' about this issue, but I like to see it as attempting to provide some insight for those who may be lamenting later that they hadn't been told how to expedite their order.
