As you get closer, you may find you can get even more information than just that....I've already been waiting since Sept 07, and I recently found out my car will be produced Nov 10, and arrive in Long Beach December 13. That's when it got exciting for me....I hope to pick it up December 22. We will see. I hope it is all worth the wait, but I am sure it will be.

I got my delivery date too. december 2009 Feburary 2010 Reserved June 2008.

with a DDE like you have, looks like you'll be getting a 2010.....maybe.

i reserved on March 16 2008 and my 'original' DDE was Oct-Dec 2009 (thinking i'm getting a 2010 too). BUT then the DDE was moved up to Sept-Nov, then Aug-Oct, July-Sept, Jun-Aug and finally last month, it took a BIG jump and is now at Feb-Apr 2009.

so while you 'think' it's coming at the end of 2009, be prepared because it may come MUCH SOONER. i wasnt' prepared for it to come EIGHT MONTHS EARLY and now i have to scramble to sell two cars. if i don't i'll have to orphan my White/Black Passion and wait AGAIN........

We originally reserved 12/07 and the DDE said March '09-May '09. We configured in April. The DDE started moving up a month at a time uintil it got to Oct-Dec '08. Then it went to days (Oct. 12-Jan. 19). We put down $1000 and were told probably around Veteran's Day (11/11). Then, sadly, it started moving out one day at a time. Each day would move it up a day. Then, on 10/29, it said 11/9, and on 10/30 it suddenly said 10/29 (the day before!). Then it started moving again, one day at a time, staying one day behind the date (11/3 said 11/2, 11/4 it said 11/3, etc.,.). Then on 11/5 it still said 11/4. On the morning of 11/6 it still said 11/4... and then I got the e-mail saying it was being shipped. The cargo tracker said it was booked on 10/29 and put aboard the ship on 11/4. It's due into Baltimore on 11/19, I think, aboard the Courage. So we should get him between Thanksgivnig and the first week of December, meaning a little under a year from $99 to delivery. It's like waiting for a baby! I asked my wife if she wanted me to put a big diaper on it and deliver it to her in work when it arrives...

One step-closer yes.. but that brings me another concern. I'm still paying on my current car that I purchased from my mother (1998 VW New Beetle) and I have every intention on keeping the car. I have no desire to part with the car, as its been very good to me and I enjoy it, also, very much.

I'm going to try to have the car paid off by the end of 2009 (I owe 3100 on it).

I'm also trying to pay down my 7 grand in credit card debt and I want that credit card debt, as well as the loan on my Bug paid off before I take delivery of my Smart. If I'm not financially ready for the Smart when my car comes in, hows that work with the Smart dealer. I want it when I'm financially ready, but I don't know how the Smart dealer would deal with something like that. Can someone please explain how that all works? Thanks!

My original DDE was Apr - July 09 for a reservation on 4 Apr.08, or roughly a year plus. I got a configuration email in late Aug. or early Sept. which I completed. The DDE moved to Mar. - May, 09, then to Jan - Mar. 09 and last week to Nov. 08 - Jan 09. Today it shows "unable to determine DDE" - so either that unit is in production or something else is going on.
I plan to sell my current orphan before the new one arrives, so I hope the dealer makes me aware of the actual date when they find out.
With the economy as it is, I suspect lots of folks are cancelling their reservations. Dealers are seeing an increase in their orphans, too.
That said, I'd get your finances in order ASAP~! Just my $.02 worth . . .
