I got a certificate from the tint shop stating it's legal (35% in OR). If I ever have a problem and the officer doesn't like the certificate, I think I'll take it to the shop. But mine doesn't look dark enough to be questionable.
The patrolman had no meter but I know it's not legal. I'll go legal with a certificate from a shop that gives issues them before getting it inspected. The only cost incurred will be the cost to fix it.
I'm sure the yellow contrasted with the tint to draw the CHP's attention. Like Big Panda, I also have a black vehicle with extremely dark tint all the way around and have never been stopped. I can even pull up along side the cops at red lights. It's just not as obvious as a bright yellow Smart.
Knock on wood, I've used 20% ALL THE WAY AROUND (except windshield of course)...didn't say one word about my tinted windows...
Just had my smart done with all 5 pcs of glass at 20%...
In IL. you can have a dark tint on every window but the windshield, driver's door & passenger door. Those windows have to be 0-5%.
(or so, I was told by a police officer)
