If anyone still puzzled as to what to get someone as a gift, I would like to suggest an excellent deal that was offered on Black Friday and is currently offered again by Kmart.
Kmart is offering a NEXTAR Q1-01, a large 4.3 screen for $99.99 after $20 rebate, which means, that you spend $119.99 + tax and get $20 back with a mail-in rebate.
No other company comes close to such a deal.
I'd say run... don't walk...maybe drive asap before they run out.
Call up and ask them to hold one for you, so you won't waste your efforts... especially with the bad weather some of you are experiencing.
This unit has TTS feature, which means it will pronounce the street name that one should turn on.
It has maps of the the continental US and if you want to visit Sarah Palin, it even has Alaska and not to mention Puerto Rico.
It also comes with a pouch, 115V charger, car charger and a pretty good windshield mount. A California mount attachment that is not meant for a windshield is also included.
What I find interesting is that it has a mini-plug receptacle, that I firmly believe (haven't tried this yet) that can be connected to the input in the glovebox of the smart for an Mp3 player. This means the radio will then substitute for the tiny speaker within the GPS unit.
In addition the unit will also play Mp3 info. When the removable map SD card is substituted for an music laden SD card it will play that card. The bad news is that the unit can not do GPS and play Mp3 simoultaneously...yet for the money that is a small sacrifice.
I suppose if one gets a larger capacity SD card one could place both features on it. It still won't play both at the same time, but one needn't switch cards back and forth. I'm not qualified to say it can be done however.
Furthermore the screen can also display photos, wow... and last but not least, there is a little avatar of a smart car profile already imbedded on the screen.
No GPS unit is perfect and going into that thought I recommend this unit highly.
HO HO HO....
