Windows up or Down

Here is what I got out of it

A/C
WHen sitting in stop and go traffic turn off the A/C and open the windows. AC can cut fuel efficancy by up to 30% in these conditions.

When on the Highway close the windows and Use the A/C
Open Windows increase the Aerodynamic load making the engine work harder. When driving on the Highway at steady speeds A/C barely incresses fuel consumption

Some other good ones:

Warm ups are not necessary. This just wastes fuel. Thanks to advanced technology, concerns over affecting engine durability and cold running performance are a thing of the past.

Operate in D (drive mode). The shift points are set for optimum fuel economy.

Don't idle - just turn the car off. If you're waiting to pick someone up, for example, there's no need to leave the car idling. All you're doing is sitting there getting zero miles per gallon.

WHen are we going to get this to happen automaticly in the states?

ANother good nugget of information is

Quote:
Keep your foot pressed firmly on brake pedal when stoped. This prevents the clutch from engaging when you have no intention of moving

I have thought all along that the brake completely de-clutches the transmission and takes it out of creep mode. This confirms it:
"> Keep your foot pressed firmly on brake pedal when stopped. This prevents the clutch from engaging when you have no intention of moving."

Nothing earth shaking in the rest of it.

Years ago, my Pop was lord and master over the fleet of delivery trucks at the electrical supply place where he worked. He had one hard and fast rule, primarily in the winter. NEVER EVER shut off the truck. The reason was simple. One fried starter, one tow, would wipe out any possible fuel savings. Just food for thought..........
