Hands down Car show winner!

Wifey and I visited the combined Carl Casper and New Car Autoshow today in L'ville. All the major car companies were there with their offerings, all had their big lighted signs and profession exhibit setups, and of course pretty much there was always someone person or couple looking at every single car. But off to one side, buried admist a swarm of people were two smarties...most of the time you couldn't see the cars from a distance with all the people around them! Funny thing is, no visable Smart signs, no fancy displays.....just two cars, one of the big wall prints (probably off the showroom wall!), and a small banner.

Sometimes less is more!

Different take on the auto show... from the Cleveland Auto Show

Well, I went to the auto show yesterday. Lots of glitz and glimmer. I wanted to see how the Smarty was accepted. After looking all over the place trying to find a sign or indication of it's presence, I discovered two smarts wrapped in ads to "reserve me @smartcenterbedford.com." Well there were no beautiful men or women talking up the smart or even a rep from the smart center, but there sure were a lot of people anxious to look inside. However the cars were locked!!! Did I mention the cars were standing alone by a stanchion in the middle of the arena... talk about ORPHANS! I have mixed feelings about this showing. On the one hand, I like being exclusive, on the other hand, it seems like Smart dealer here feels that they have a lock and don't need to talk about the cars, cause you can't get them without reservation, so just "come on down and reserve" and we'll talk about them then. Wow. what a let down. I wore my hat and had my keychain to identify myself as an owner, but there really wasn't anyone to identify myself to. . Hope someone is there for the rest of the show and at least unlocks the doors. I say show em what you got Bedford!

Deacon, that IS pretty lame. I guess Smart figured they couldn't compete with all the Maybacks, Ferraris, Mercedes and Escalades in Cleveland. It's a shame because WE know they can. Everything I've heard here is you couldn't put enuff fortwos on the floor to satisfy the public.

car show

Bob,
I know I just got my car mid january, but going to the car show, I just wasn't impressed with the other cars.
I just figured there would be someone to answer the questions from the literally large groups of people stopping to look at the car. Maybe they won't buy, or even have further interest, but just let em look for cryin out loud!

Yes, smartusa is certainly not ready for car shows yet. In our case the cars were open (the cabrio had it's top down, the coupe had its engine compartment open) and always had people all over them. They were not giving out catalogs as I'm sure it would easily exhaust their supply. All they had was a single photocopied page mentioning some details about the car and rezo program.

I recently read the other week that Smart was sort of hoping on getting enough intrest to sell 20k units. There are already about 42k on the 99 res. list...!!
