Harley riders luvs the Smart

Harley riders are used to people gawking at them and their motorcycles. Yesterday, the table got turned.

I just got back golfing with a friend (that drives a Suburban). Afterwards, with my clubs and push-cart still in my Smart, we drove to this dive bar/restaurant for some lunch. I pulled into parking lot and here's 7-8 Harley guys/gals dressed in black leather. They all walked across the street to greet me before I even got out of the car.

In front of me, was a lady that was just getting out of the restaurant. I can read her lips, "OMG.....look at that thing". She soon made it over to join the crowd, which must have been 9 now. They all circled it I couldn't even see the car. I wished I had a camera to take a picture. It was priceless.

The usual questions followed. One of the Harley guy even knew about the Mercedes connection. They all had smiles on my faces. How often do you get a group of free-spirited Harley riders say that you have a 'cool ride'. It has never happened to me until now.

The other lady asked about my weird license plate and what it meant (GLFCRT9). I just pointed to the contents of my car. The Harley group got it, but this lady still didn't.

Those Harley bunch were a smart group.

Harley Riders have been the nicest in the last several days and it must of been just a coincidence that both of them were riding the V-riders we were admiring each others rides. I really like the V-rider nice bike!

first day on the road I got a thumbs up from a motorcycle rider on the freeway. it was a nice welcome into the smart world. I think motorcycle riders and smart drivers share the feeling that we are doing something a little different.

I think Harley riders do like smarts!

I had a similar experience, two riders on a Harley rode by giving thumbs up and waving yesterday. My smart is black with the orange/red interior, similar to the Harley company colors. My neighbor has a "Fat Boy" and I told him I was getting Harley emblems for my smart car and the "Fat Boy" is the one he sees driving it!

we were driving back from Denver on I76 when a pack of 4 HD riders cruised past us... 1 at a time... each with a smile, a nod, etc... the last guy shook his head in disbelief, then a big thumbs up! They know what's up...

I have noticed the same thing, all the harley guys smile or nod but not too many crotch rocketeers do it.

A lot of us here on the forum are Harley Owners and there are a lot of other Motorcycle owners and enthusiasts who have become smarties as well.
Don't really know why but a lot of us were early smart adopters at least partially because of the safety concerns over such a small car. We already deal with the issue of being unprotected in an accident and having to drive very defensively. The fact that the smart turns out so well in crash tests was a bonus for all of us.

Other issue is we ride for fun and here is a car that is about as much fun to drive as is the HOG!

My smart shares the garage space with my Harley. Two bikes and the smart fit in the space of one car. :-)
