It's not so much that I'm waiting for Homer to fill out his paperwork, it's more like being told to get behind the other 5000 Homer's who are waiting in line after me because I live in South Dakota.

Dare I say I feel Your pain and it is being felt by many other reservists. Our only alternative, and I must qualify this as I have not seen it; is to change delivery dealerships. Delivery Dealer Can Be Changed

I have read on other threads that the invitation to configure e-mail ends up in the junk mail box. You might look there and use the search feature here for the many other threads on this subject. Many have had the same issues as you. If any comfort, you're not alone and the smart is worth waiting for

That's right. Sue because you aren't happy with the process. And I thought I was bad about my complaining. I'm sure after you {try to} sue they'll be happy to sell you a car and service it. I'd be willing to bet every dealership would have your name and know your vin. Of course you do have other options. There are lots of other car manufacturers that would LOVE to have your business and wouldn't make you wait.... you could purchase a vehicle off the lot. Seriously though, you could try the orphan list. If you're really nice you might get an orphan without waiting too terribly long.

You basically agreed to smart USA's terms when you reserved that there was no guarantee of a delivery and that you'd accept thier distribution logic. Its purely based on markets and interest. Compared to New York and California the demand in South Dakota is probably pretty low and the potential to sell a lot of smarts is probably equally low. Remember, smart USA is a business and not here to fulfill your desire to buy something at thier loss. They have to be able to market and make a profit in order to stay viable. You only need to look at the dealer map to confirm that there isn't high demand in your area -no dealers from MN to WA in the northern part of the country. So you are probably lumped into the pool with the MN dealer or they are accumulating interest for the opening of another dealer closer to you. The only way you have an argument is that if people with later reservations assigned to the SAME dealer are ahead of you in line.

I'll repeat an earlier comment... think of how silly it is to be complaining about not being able to buy a thing. Its not like this is a necessity for life, it is a material possession. If you MUST have a small efficient car there are other options out there with mass distribution available. I'm sorry you can't have what you want but filing complaints and threatening legal actions isn't going to get you what you want.

We have become a country of we want what we want and we gotta have it now... If I don't then I am going to sue. If we have to stand in line, someone is gonna pay. It is shameless. I agree with others who said that there are other options out there. I say go for it.

Posted many times before, but after you reserve this is included in the e-mail from smart USA:

Quote:
THIS IS NOT AN OFFER TO SELL OR ENTER INTO A PURCHASE AGREEMENT TO BUY A SMART CAR. THIS OPPORTUNITY IS FOR RETAIL CUSTOMERS ONLY. YOU WILL RECEIVE AN OFFER ONLY FROM AN AUTHORIZED smart USA DEALER. SHOULD YOU DECIDE NOT TO PURCHASE A SMART CAR, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO A FULL REFUND, WITHOUT INTEREST, OF YOUR DEPOSIT AT ANY TIME...
So your car gets here when it gets here and you exercise the 30 day option to buy it or you don't. Nothing to be done about it except the ideas posted above: different dealer or the orphan route (or get lucky and find a used one from a fellow forum member )
