early last year (for the record BEFORE i got married) i had 'the bug' and wanted to order a Smart, but with everything going on personally, i missed the announcement, if you can believe that.

anyway, now that i'm married, the wife hasn't been so understanding of my wanting one of these cars. BUT after my trip to the dealer last Saturday and my telling her all about what i had seen, she now finds them 'interesting'. still got a way to go, but i think she's even considering a 'test drive' now.....WOO HOO!!!

anyone else experience any resistance???

Not at all. In fact, it's more likely we will be arguing over who gets to drive it on a daily basis!

My wife thinks I'm nuts, but we're coming up for 25 years or marriage so she knows me well enough to know that I have to get these things out of my system.

I think she is hopeful that this "toy" will replace my motorcycles, and she may be right.

LOL, I am getting some serious resistance on my end, too! =) However, I have this feeling it will go 180 and I will be having to fight to drive my smart...

"Ours" actually belongs to BJ.
She saw them in Germany and said I want one of those.
So we got one of the first in Houston. I get to put it up every nite and get it up in the morning. (wash if necessary. Sometimes get to drive if we are going into Houston, etc.
Been married 50+ years.
Before you say it. The only man not henpecked, doesnt have a hen to peck him.

Just so you know... I'm the chick or "wife unit" as my husband calls me. I'm the one that reserved the Smart Car. I never question my spouses motorcycle or vehicle purchases as I find we tend to like the same things. We'll be flipping coins, drawing straws and arm wrestling to see who gets to drive the Smart... That is... when I get it.

this is really the first 'new' car that the wife wants (she'll be driving it almost all of the time) in many years (we're just past 25 years of bliss). It's been kind of a combo birthday/anniversary gift that hopefully won't dissapoint (although she was pretty happy after a test drive event this past fall ... slow shift tranny or not). I guess she also loved my New Beetle back in '98 but it has been 10 years now!

i think my 'wifey' as she affectionately refers to herself, will come around and then i'll be the one 'fighting for custody'. but the good news is that she's leaving the normal workplace and devoting all her time to her own business. this means i have MORE of a reason to drive it....you know, to save on gas to and from work!

since you mentioned the Beetle, she had one as a kid, a 69 Bug, and she just loved that car. i told her last night that the Smart is very similar to the VW when it first came to the US. everyone was just amazed at to how small it was, but it caught on quickly and we all know how THAT story went. she agreed.....i just keep coming up with stuff and reeling her in!

before she knows it, she'll love that little Smart

and she'll never know what hit her!!
