Have you had this happen??

Last night we were leaving Rite Aid and noticed someone standing next to our smart looking at it. Not uncommon for someone to be looking at the car, it is one of two that we know of in town so it does stand out. Anyway, the older man must not have known that we were nearby because he began to look inside our tinted coupe (hands cupped around his eyes to block the reflection kind of looking), this me a little uncomfortable. After looking in the window he reached for the door handle and pulled. At this point I hit the lock button on the key so that the lights came on he jumped back like the car was going attack him. He ended up talking to us for 10 minutes or so about how he remembers seeing them in Italy years ago.

Has this happened to anyone else? Who reaches to open the door in a well lit parking lot with people walking around nearby? I don't mind people looking, and I enjoy talking about the car, but who tries to get in the car.

We've had many people cup their hands to gaze inside but your situation is a little extreme. I don't think anyone in their right mind would try to open a door to a car they didn't own, unless they want to get their behind kicked or be thrown in jail.

Yikes! I don't mind people looking in -- I know most are curious to see how tiny it is inside (or so they think). I like seeing them be surprised at how BIG it is inside. But to open the door to a car that isn't theirs.... that's WAY too much curiosity.

Especially in Texas, bad idea!! Haven't had that happen here in Oregon but folks here usually aren't that bold!

Trying to open the door is nothing. Once I have the guy grabbed rear fender of my "Surfmobile" and tried to lifted it up while I was standing in front of it!!!!! When I asked what the hell he is doing, he replied that he just want to know how much it weights!!!!!

I think its time someone invented the electro shock James Bond-esque security system for a smart. Just a little 20,000 volt jolt for touching would do...
