As an example - I was a little concerned about fuel economy after reading the poor performance/economy when new... well mine is two weeks old - All running around town,start/stop -now with 480 miles averaging 28 mph (worst kind of scenario) I am averaging 48.6mpg on the second full tank of gas
ps I also have a 1 year old Porsche, a H2 and a couple of other cars, and like driving the Smart the most...

I'm not sure I'd ever say "hands off" to a woman...Oh, you were talking about the car? Well that changes things.

You asked for reassurance yesterday. In one day you've gotten over 30 responses from people saying how much they love their smarts. That has to counter the 5-10 people that have complaints or concerns. Notice that some complaint threads are dominated by the same 3-4 people. That's the nature of a forum: of hundreds, a few have legitimate concerns or problems and some of those people are more vocal than others.

As for me, 1200 miles, no problems at all. Still love my smart, even if people act like complete idiots to get my attention some days. In the last 6 weeks I have effectively sold over 200 smart cars simply by relaying to people my good experience. I think I've managed to increase the reservation wait time to about two years, and I should put in my order for a 2010 model.

First, I didn't read all the other replies. Just giving you my own thoughts.

You have a long time to think about it and contemplate it.
Go to ANY automotive forum and you will see complaints. Thousands drive around in their smarts having never visited a forum of any kind. Some enthusiasts find the forums just to talk about the automobile of their choice. Others yet only look for a forum once they have a problem. And there are always those looking for problems where there aren't any.

I am trying to decide whether to cancel the reservation and look at something like the Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris. Any input is welcomed!!

6600 Mi

6600 miles and no problems at all. Love the transmission now that we know each other better. 90% of the time i just leave it in the auto mode and gas on nice and steady and she shifts when she wants and runs real sweet. When I don't try to control the shifting so much things just works better. The key for me seems to be not to accelerate so hard and not to very the gas as much.

Couldn't ask for a better experience.

Just put Rejex on her and looks and feels great. Slicker than snake snot.

I have owned my Cabrio for almost a month. I have about 3000 miles on it. I drive a lot. I've driven in bad wind, scorching heat, stop and go traffic, and long and short trips. The biggest problem I've encountered so far was on the way back from my 800 mile round trip to SoCal. During road construction on I 5 they had these nasty bumps. The smart isn't real great with large potholes or big bumps in the road at high speed. I just slowed down at the bump signs and pissed off the people in their big cars. No big deal. Everything else has been smooth as silk. I'm even getting to be less shy as I talk to at least 4 or 5 strangers a day.

Had mine since 9 May 2008. It's got around 1500 miles on it now. The only problem that I've had wasn't really the car, but BAD gas! Once I filled up with top-of-the-line Shell gas, the problem quickly resolved! I've got 4 vehicles now for just my wife and myself, and the smart gets driven more than any of the other vehicles. My wife drives her Aveo to work each day, and I drive my smart. Unless we're going somewhere and taking the dogs, which includes a Great Dane........(so smart e isn't possible), we ALWAYS take the smart. It's a LOT more fun, gets a LOT of smiles (from them & me), and great gas mileage! Oh.......I did strand myself in the driveway yesterday. I was putting my new storage divider in the back of the car that the postman had just delivered, and I put my key down inside, and closed the hatch before I realized it! WHOOPS!! My wife had the spare key in her purse at work, so I ended up driving the Aveo yesterday, since my wife had rode to work with a co=worker!! The Aveo, which I USED to love to drive, and it's still a fun car, felt like I was driving my 1986 Mercury Sable station wagon after driving Smart e for the last 5 weeks! We all LOVE our smarts! Even if you decide on another car........don't cancel the reservation, unless you need the $99 to put food on the table or something. Just leave it in place and don't burn any bridges. I had some doubts at one point and thought of getting my $99 back, but then I thought "What the hell. It's $99!" I'm glad I kept the reservation now. I love just LOOKING at this car..........it's so unique!!!
