Headlight Problem

My headlights won't come on. The bright lights come on and the parking lights come on but not the regular lights. I had some kind of emission sensor replaced by a local mechanic recently but I'm not sure that the headlights quit working at that time, I don't drive it much at night. Does anyone have any ideas. I live about 140 miles from a dealer. Thanks.

TR, I can't help with your problem, If no one else offers a solution here, I would suggest that you call BJ first before making the drive to SEA. I'm 225 mi from the dealer and my first move always is to call the guys... just so I don't have to waste a trip.

Good luck finding the problem.

Timo

TR..looking at page284 of the op. manual shows that the fuses are split for left and right lamp assemblies...#6 Rt...#7 Lt...I will pull the lamps out and visually check them and if you have a volt/ohm meter check them for continuity....just me

Another thing to check out while you're down under the dash is pulling the #6 & 7 fuses and checking the "hot" side of the fuse position with a VOM or a test-light. With the engine running and the light switch on, you should see 12VDC power at the hot-side terminal in the fusebox. If it isn't there, there's a power feed problem upstream of the fusebox. If it *is* there, you've got either a wiring issue between the fusebox and the headlamps, or two blown H7 lamps in your dipped-beams (which is one heck of a coincidence, but not totally impossible).

Since you have your parking lamps and your high-beams, that rules out a grounding problem.

Uh-Oh...

You said you had an emmisions sensor replaced recently by a "local mechanic?" I assume that means not a Smart service center... Maybe the wrench-twiddler accidentaly unplugged something somewhere that really wants to be plugged in. FWIW, not a lot of non-Smart wrenches know very much, if anything at all, about our cars.

Y'might take it back to the shop that did your sensor and at least talk to them; they should be able to pinpoint the area where they were working, which would be a starting point if you do wind up having to trace the wiring harness.

I will definately do that. He was in contact with the dealer and they told him alot of those sensors had gone out so they we stocking extras and it was a simple install, which it should have been because I saw the part and where it went onto the engine before he installed it.

I would check the bulbs first. The vibe are known for both headlights going out at the same time

Just wanted to post a note to say thank you for the bulb problem fix. I had my passenger side go out. They have previously been relaced with HID's and I disassembled the front only to find no power. I didn't search the forum first as I couldn't imagine the drivers and passengers side being on different fuses.........yep, it was out. Check 22 and 23 before you pull the front apart.

thanks again
