HELP! Being overcharged on ski rack installation

I brought my car in to have a ski rack installed. I was quoted for $180 for the actual rack, about $160 for the mount, and labor, totaling to about $500. Now, after they've installed everything, they're charging me $1000. Apparently no one the many times I called to ask about pricing mentioned a $500 base rack.

Can someone explain the installation of the ski rack? What is a base mount? I either got screwed on my original quote, or I'm getting screwed on the installation.

Sounds to me like you were misled. I'd go elsewhere even if the total cost was the same. Why give this shop your business?

First, what did you buy? Do you have a written estimate? Did it include the base rack? Were you ever informed you needed a base rack? Did you research ski racks for your smart before you took it to the shop to have one installed?

If you have a written estimate that does not include the base rack, you have a case. If no written estimate was provided then you have relied on a good faith verbal estimate and may be able to negotiate a settlement with the shop. Good Luck, let us know what happens!!
