High Mileage Smart's?

What is your mileage? Also about how many miles are these cars expected to last?

I have over 4500 miles on my Smart. I am hoping they last a long time (at least till it is paid off ). I average about 37 mpg; less when it is cold.

smarts have been around for a decade (just not in the US). Someone reported Consumer Reports ranked it high in reliability. I didn't read that report personally.
There are smarts here in the USA with 30K+ miles on them.
Mine has 6130 miles, no serious problems.

Like any car, it depends on how, and WHERE you drive it. Hey big guy, did you mean 37?

We find that we get in the high 30's with mostly city driving. We also tend to drive somewhat conservatively as we bought the car to get good mileage. Mostly not over 65 on the freeway. The best we have achieved was 48mpg on a trip of over 300 miles primarily on the highway. It included going from sea level over a 3,000 foot mountain pass and back plus 2 days of city driving again. We gassed up before and after at the same gas station. The car had about 1,500 miles on it at the time - a Passion. I would say that if you are getting in the low 30's you either just took delivery and are on your first tank of gas (car not broken in) or you run it really hard up to high rpm's.

It was a typo. I corrected it to 37. It is usually mostly urban/city travel with some sections being up to 50 mph.

Your best bet is prolly to click on fuelly.com and look for smart cars. The mileage on cars with fewer than 10 fuel-ups is not as reliable as those with more, but there are enough cars to give you a good idea. There are a few cars in the mid-30s, but most are in the high 30s and low 40s.

There are some tables in the forum somewhere. Basically your mileage at 70-75 is still better than a Hummer at 50-55. Figure on mileage around 25 mpg.
